The Best Clubs in Vienna

Dec 7 , 2011

Had your fair share of history and culture? Ready to get dance to something other than Mozart? Vienna is a city brimming with nightlife options that will keep you up until sunrise and have you dancing til dawn. Check out these hot clubs in Vienna for a night out unlike any other.

Flex: The godfather of all clubs in Vienna, Flex is one of the longest-standing nightlife institutions in the city. DJs from around the world have spun here, putting this spot on the map as one of the best parties in Europe. Every night of the week employs a different musical theme, but you can be sure the dance floors will be packed and the people will be beautiful. You may wake up the next day with your heart still thumping to a techno beat, but it’ll be well worth it.

Passage: As its name might suggest, Passage inhabits an old pedestrian underpass beneath one of Vienna’s main drags, Ringstrasse. House, soul, funk, and techno pump through the speakers of this subterranean nightclub. The decor and lighting stands in stark contrast to the location’s underground roots, creating a futuristic feel to the space. This is a must-visit among clubs in Vienna for those looking for a unique nightlife experience.

Volksgarten: Though there are plenty of clubs in Vienna boasting a dance floor, nothing compares to the scene at Volksgarten. Most popular on weekend nights, this nightclub is universally known as one of the hottest dance spots in the city. In warmer months you can show off your steps in the moonlight by taking your moves to the open-air patio. Dress to impress -- and bring those dancing shoes.

U4 Discothek: Visitors certainly won’t have a hard time finding Club U4, as its name stems from the metro stop just steps from its front door. The party unfolds over two floors, with several bars to quench your thirst. Be sure to check out who’s spinning that night and what the musical genre will be, because the crowd can vary drastically from night to night. If you’re lucky you just might be in town when a legendary live act takes the stage -- Prince, Johnny Depp, and Nirvana have all performed here.

Heaven Vienna at the Camera Club: Though there aren’t many clubs in Vienna geared for the LGBT crowd, this weekly party calls all “gays and friends of gays” as the best gay dance party in the city. The party used to take place at U4, but now calls the popular Camera Club home on Saturday nights. As is to be expected, the Heaven Vienna party is the quintessence of eccentricity, so be ready for whatever may come your way.

Roxy: With its chic ambiance and classy clientele, Roxy is a refreshing departure from many other clubs in Vienna. Boasting 1960’s wooden panelling and red lights and velvet, the atmosphere feels high-class but not stuffy. Rock out to mostly hip hop and soul music at Roxy, while sipping on reasonably priced cocktails. Not too shabby.
